Two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Friday Abah, 25, and Eloho Okah, 19, who were declared missing on June 20, have been confirmed dead. The Ondo State Police Command revealed that the students were abducted and killed by a gang led by the landlord of one of the victims.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, said the police began a thorough investigation after the family of the missing students submitted a petition on June 24.
During the investigation, police tracking systems led detectives to Lagos, where they found an iPhone 14 Pro Max belonging to one of the victims with a man named Abdul Mohammed Mubarak.
He confessed that he bought the phone from another man, Ojo Michael, who was later arrested in Aramoko-Ekiti. The students’ Lexus RX 350 vehicle was also recovered from the suspects.
According to the police, Michael later confessed to being part of the kidnapping and named Oladele Femi, the landlord of one of the students, as the person who planned the entire operation.
Femi allegedly brought Michael and another man identified as “Kola”, who is still on the run, into the plan. They abducted the two students, withdrew ₦800,000 from Abah’s account while they were in captivity, and later killed them.
The police explained that Eloho Okah identified Michael during their time in captivity, which made the criminals panic. Fearing she would expose them, they decided to kill both students. The two bodies were dumped in different locations between Agbado and Ode-Ekiti. Okah’s body was found and taken for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to recover Abah’s body, believed to have been dumped in a river.
Femi has also been arrested and reportedly confessed to organising the kidnapping. The police have described the incident as a painful and planned act of betrayal, promising that justice will be served.
The Student Union President of AAUA, Akeem Ologbon, said the incident was heartbreaking and that the union had worked closely with security agencies from the start to help locate the missing students.
