A 39-year-old Nigerian man has shared his painful life story, revealing how he and his twin brother went from being sons of a wealthy businessman to struggling adults with little to show for years of hard work.
In an emotional account, the man said his twin brother recently returned to Nigeria after spending nine years in Canada, but came back with nothing. According to him, the situation has left both of them confused, frustrated, and emotionally drained. Their story began with tragedy. The twins lost their mother at birth and were raised single-handedly by their father, whom the man described as a “true hero.” Their father, a successful businessman, never remarried and focused entirely on raising them and building his enterprise.
“We didn’t grow up poor,” he said. “Dad was a strong businessman and had many properties and shops.”
However, things took a dramatic turn 15 years ago when their father passed away, just one month before they graduated from school. The loss marked the beginning of what he described as a long season of hardship.
Because their father did not leave a will, family members allegedly moved in quickly to claim a share of the inheritance. A legal battle followed, and although the twins eventually won the court case, the victory did not translate into lasting stability.
“That court case was the only win we ever had,” he lamented.
Despite holding degrees in business, the brothers said they struggled to secure meaningful employment. Attempts to start businesses reportedly failed repeatedly. Over time, they were forced to sell off their late father’s remaining assets and shops to survive.
The proceeds were shared between them. While one brother stayed in Nigeria to invest in an electronics business, the other traveled to Canada in search of better opportunities.
Years later, both men say they are back to where they started.
The brother who relocated abroad spent nine years in Canada but allegedly returned home empty-handed. The man disclosed that he had even been sending money from his modest earnings in Nigeria to support his twin overseas.
Now approaching 40, he says he has no wife, no children, and no tangible achievements to point to despite years of effort.
“I’m turning 40 in two months. I have nothing to show for my hard work. I live in a tiny, unfurnished room,” he said.
Currently, the twins reportedly share a single small room, sleep on one mattress, and rely on a barely functioning fan.
“I’m beyond confused. Is this even normal? I’ve worked so hard, but life keeps pushing back. I’m exhausted and on the verge of giving up,” he added.
The story has sparked conversations online about inheritance disputes, migration struggles, economic hardship, and the emotional toll of long-term financial instability. Many social commentators say the situation highlights the importance of estate planning, mentorship, and mental health support for individuals facing prolonged setbacks.
As the twins try to rebuild their lives once again, their story stands as a sobering reminder that academic qualifications and family wealth do not always guarantee long-term success, especially in the face of legal battles, economic challenges, and repeated business failures.
