At least 30 women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids, were abducted after armed bandits attacked Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Saturday night, security sources have reported.
The attack, which left one resident injured, occurred just hours before the bride’s wedding ceremony, turning what was meant to be a joyous occasion into tragedy.
Security analyst Bakatsine disclosed the incident on Sunday via X, noting that the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness and carried away the women and girls.
“Yesterday night, bandits invaded Chacho community in Wurno LGA of Sokoto State. They injured one person and abducted at least 30 women and girls, including a bride and her bridesmaids during the invasion,” Bakatsine wrote. “A day meant for joy and celebration was shattered as bandits stormed and inflicted wounds. How much more pain must ordinary families endure before they find safety?”
Authorities are yet to release an official statement regarding the attack. Security forces are reportedly investigating the incident and working to rescue the abducted victims.
This latest attack underscores ongoing security challenges in northwest Nigeria, where communities continue to face the threat of banditry and kidnapping.
