The husband and wife got married on May 5, 2024, in a beautiful traditional ceremony. Family and friends gathered to celebrate them, and their pictures in traditional outfits showed nothing but love and excitement. Everyone believed they had started a happy journey together.
But sadly, barely two months later, in July 2024, the marriage collapsed. The reason was not lack of love, but a painful medical truth. The couple discovered that they had genotype issues, and their union would put their future children at risk of sickle cell disease.
The painful message from the couple explained that they truly loved each other. However, they had to separate because they could not bear the thought of bringing children into the world to suffer a lifetime of pain.
In the husband’s heartbreaking note, he said:
“God knows I love you so much, but we have to go our separate ways to avoid everlasting pains. I pray God directs your own within a short period of time. In my heart you will forever remain. I miss you.”
This revelation has sparked wide reactions on social media. Many Nigerians have been left in shock, asking how the couple managed to plan their wedding, spend money on pre-wedding photos, arrange ceremonies, and yet failed to go to the hospital to do a simple genotype test before saying “I do.”
Social commentator, Amanda Chisom, also reacted strongly. She expressed disappointment, saying:
“I do not understand. While planning for wedding, you could not spare one day to do test in hospital? The day you did pre-wedding shoot, you could not rush to hospital to do blood work first. Unserious bunch.”
Her words stirred more conversations, as people agreed that many young couples ignore important medical checks while rushing into marriage.
The story of this couple has left many in tears because their love was real and pure, but it could not conquer science. They are now apart, carrying heavy hearts, while their once bright future has been cut short by a medical condition that could have been checked before their wedding day.
For now, the man and woman are left with nothing but memories of the short time they shared as husband and wife, while Nigerians continue to mourn the sad ending of a marriage that barely lasted two months.
