Benjamin Hundeyin is not a stranger to many Nigerians. He studied English Language at Lagos State University where he earned a degree. Later, he went to the University of Ibadan where he obtained a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology. He also trained at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre in Kaduna State where he received a certificate in Civil-Military Coordination.
His career has been filled with service both at home and abroad. He once served as the spokesman for Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos. In 2020, he joined the Nigerian team that went for a United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan. After that, he returned and worked as an administration officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Until this new appointment, he was the spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command where he became well known for his open communication with the public.
Hundeyin is also a member of many professional bodies. He is an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, a Member of the International Public Relations Association, and a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria. These memberships show how much he has invested in improving himself and in his chosen career.
The Inspector-General of Police asked him to use his experience in communication and security to build stronger trust between the police and Nigerians. The police chief believes that the new spokesman has the skill and knowledge to speak for the Force in a way that will bring more understanding and better relationships with citizens.
Benjamin Hundeyin will now take over from Deputy Commissioner of Police, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who has been the voice of the police at the national level for some time. Adejobi signed the official statement announcing the change, describing Hundeyin as a seasoned communicator who has all it takes to do well in the new role.
This appointment matters because the image of the police often depends on how well they talk to the public. A police spokesman is not only a messenger but also a bridge between the Force and the people. Nigerians will now be looking at Benjamin Hundeyin to see how he will manage this big responsibility.
The Force has also shared his direct contact details, saying people can reach him on his phone line or by email. This shows the level of openness the police leadership wants him to maintain in his work.
