Eyewitness accounts and online reports had earlier claimed that the truck, which collided with vehicles and killed some people on Wednesday, belonged to the Dangote Group. The company, however, said the truck was not part of its fleet.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Dangote Industries explained that the vehicle was owned and operated by Visco Investment Global Limited, a third-party operator. The company further stated that the truck was carrying its logo without authorisation.
“We are actively engaging with the appropriate agencies to determine why the truck in question was bearing our logo, despite not being part of our fleet,” the statement read.
The management condemned the increasing spread of false reports whenever accidents occur involving vehicles branded with the Dangote name. It also assured the public that it would apply stricter measures to prevent unauthorised use of its brand identity.
The company emphasised that it does not comment publicly on individual accidents, but this case had to be addressed due to the growing misinformation. It called on the media and the public to avoid circulating unverified claims, especially in sensitive situations where families are grieving.
Dangote Industries also pledged to cooperate fully with the authorities to ensure proper investigations into the tragic accident. The company rejected attempts by certain individuals to use such tragedies for malicious or financial purposes.
Finally, the statement reaffirmed DIL’s commitment to safety, accountability, and integrity across all its operations.
