Grief and anger filled the streets of Ekpoma, Edo State, on Saturday as hundreds of students from Ambrose Alli University came out in large numbers to protest the shocking death of a final-year Microbiology student named Blessing Jackson Samuel.
Blessing was reported missing last week by her friend, but days later, her lifeless and decomposing body was found in a shocking location — inside the same compound where she stayed.
The sad discovery came after police received a tip and broke into her room, only to find her dead body already in a bad state.
Blessing was last seen on Sunday. She missed her scheduled examination on Monday, which raised suspicions.
Many of her friends said she was not the type to miss an exam. So when she did not show up, worries began to grow.
Things became even more suspicious when the same friend who reported her missing allegedly blocked students from searching the compound.
This made other students raise serious questions. Some began to suspect that the friend might know more than she was saying.
Messages allegedly found on Blessing’s phone hinted at a possible kidnapping and ransom demand. But nobody could confirm what truly happened.
When the police finally acted on a report and searched the premises, what they found was painful and hard to believe.
Blessing’s body was found dead in the same building. Students could not hold back their emotions.
She had dreams. She was just about to graduate. She was a daughter, a friend, and a sister.
Now, those dreams have been buried with her.
During the protest, students carried placards with her photo and messages demanding justice.
Some of the placards read, *"She didn’t deserve this,”* *“Justice for Blessing,”* and *“We want answers.”*
The protest was peaceful, but the emotions were heavy. Cries of pain and anger could be heard.
Many of her classmates who joined the protest said they could not sleep since they heard the news.
“She was so full of life. She just wanted to graduate and make her family proud,” one student said, holding back tears.
The school gate was filled with protesters. They wore black and held candles, silently praying for Blessing’s soul.
The school management has not released an official statement yet, but the police said investigations are ongoing.
They promised to get to the root of the case and uncover everyone involved in the girl’s mysterious death.
As of now, no arrest has been confirmed, but students are not backing down.
They say they want the police to dig deep and reveal what really happened.
They also want the school authority to provide more safety for students, especially females.
Blessing’s story has now gone viral across Nigeria, with many calling it one of the most painful student-related deaths in recent years.
This tragedy reminds many Nigerians of how unsafe young women can be, even in places where they are supposed to feel safe.
May her gentle soul rest in peace.
Let this not be the end. Let justice speak. Let the truth come out.
