Must Read
What I am about to share is one of the most heartbreaking stories I have come across in recent times.
A young lady named Osaro Festus has been confirmed dead after visiting a young man she met through social media. What started as a normal online friendship ended in tragedy, and her story is a painful reminder of the dangers many people, especially young women, face today.
According to reports, Osaro left her parents’ house on the 20th of April 2025, with a female friend. Before going to see the young man named Joshua, she was wise enough to send her friend a picture of him—just in case something went wrong. That little action became very important in tracking the case.
For weeks, Osaro’s family searched for her. Days turned into weeks, and still no sign of her. Her worried mother reported the case to the police, and investigation started immediately. The pressure and concerns grew, especially as Osaro’s phone went off completely.
After nearly two months of desperate searching, police operatives finally arrested Joshua at his house. The shocking part of the story is that he confessed during interrogation. He admitted that he invited Osaro to his place, and during a heated argument, she allegedly slipped and died after hitting her head on the ground.
Instead of calling for help or informing her family, Joshua took matters into his own hands. He used a wheelbarrow to carry her body into a nearby bush and buried her in a shallow grave, just a few metres away from his house in Benin City.
This is truly painful.
A young girl who left her home in search of friendship never returned alive. The family she left behind is now left with grief, anger, and unanswered questions. Many people on social media have been reacting with shock and tears.
People are now asking: How safe is it to meet strangers from the internet?
The Edo State Police Command, through their spokesperson CSP Moses Yamu, has confirmed the arrest and promised that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.

This sad news should be a warning to all. As much as social media can connect us to new people, we must be very careful. Always let someone know where you are going. Never trust anyone you just met online with your life. And most importantly, never go to someone’s house alone, especially for the first time.
