The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has visited Benue State to comfort the people after a recent series of deadly attacks in the area. These attacks have sadly led to the loss of many lives.
The IGP arrived in Benue on Sunday, 16th June 2025, with top police officers, including DIG Yakubu Kwazhi (Operations), DIG Adebola Hamzat (Logistics & Supply), AIG Zachariah Fera (Zone 4), and CP Abayomi Shogunle from the Special Intervention Squad.
Visit to the Governor
He went straight to the State Government House in Makurdi to meet with the Governor, His Excellency Hyacinth Alia. The Governor welcomed the IGP warmly and thanked him for the continued deployment of police officers to the state.
The IGP described the killings as “senseless” and “acts of terrorism.” He promised to do everything within the power of the Nigeria Police Force to catch those responsible and restore peace in the state.
Visit to the Affected Community
The IGP also visited Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area — one of the places affected by the attacks. There, he saw the damage done and spoke with local leaders. He was joined by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.
During the visit, the IGP comforted the people and reassured them that more police officers and equipment would be sent to protect them. He has now ordered the immediate deployment of additional tactical police teams to Benue.
DIG Yakubu Kwazhi will lead the operations to improve safety in the state.
Police Officers Encouraged
Before leaving, the IGP spoke to police officers in the Benue State Command at the Officers’ Mess in Makurdi. He encouraged them to stay strong and promised better welfare and support.
The Nigeria Police Force has promised the people of Benue and the whole country that it will not rest until the attackers are caught and peace is fully restored.
