A funny incident occurred earlier today when a kind-hearted Nigerian man decided to buy fruits for his wife and daughters. He had parked beside an elderly woman in her 70s who was selling fruits on the roadside.
After selecting fruits worth N6,300, the man asked the old mama to call out her bank details so that he could make a transfer from his OPay account.
However, the woman refused, insisting she only accepted cash payments. The man tried to persuade her, but mama stood her ground.
A nearby vegetable seller then suggested that the man could send the money to her own account and she would give mama the cash.
The man agreed and even added an extra N700 for mama to buy a drink. But the old mama did not seem impressed, only caring about getting her money.
While trying to complete the payment, the man’s OPay app suddenly triggered a security check, asking him to open his mouth in the middle of the road, as though he was about to receive spiritual food.
Seeing this, mama ran for her life, leaving her fruits behind and pointing at the man, insisting she was not selling again.
Despite the confusion, the vegetable seller confirmed the payment and let the man go with his fruits. The man later took to social media, sharing his hilarious experience, thanking OPay for their security features but also begging them to reconsider the timing and location of such checks.
“Oluwanishola Akeju, the man involved, shared his experience online, saying, ‘OPay, I love your security for my money, but please, not on the main road where everyone can see me opening my mouth and nodding my head like agama.’”
Mobile money apps like OPay have become popular in Nigeria for their convenience, but their security features can sometimes lead to unexpected and humorous situations.
This story has left many in stitches online, proving that even in serious times, laughter can still find its way into our daily lives. Have you had a similar funny experience? Share in the comments below!
