The people of Ibagwa-Aka, a quiet town in Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area of Enugu State, were thrown into deep shock and sorrow after news broke that four little children were murdered in cold blood by a man believed to be a pastor. This tragic event happened inside their home, and it has left both the family and the entire community devastated.
The victims — Kamsiyochukwu Ezema aged 7, Ezinne Ezema aged 6, Ujunwa Ezema aged 5, and Chinedu Ezema aged just 2 — were all siblings from the same parents. They were reportedly killed using a pestle, a heavy wooden tool usually found in kitchens.
According to residents of the area, the suspect is known in the community as a pastor who runs a sabbath church and is also involved in spiritual and herbal healing activities.
Nobody expected that someone who called himself a man of God would be capable of such a heartless act.
The children’s parents, Chinonso and Loveth Ezema, were said to be away when the incident occurred. The pain of losing all their children at once in such a cruel way is something no parent should ever go through.
The father, during a brief statement, pleaded with the police to do everything within their power to investigate and make sure those responsible face the law.
The Chairman of Igbo-Eze South Local Government, Mr Ferdinand Ukwueze, visited the grieving family to offer his condolences and also went to the scene of the crime along with police officers, DSS personnel, and other security agents.
While speaking, he expressed how heartbroken he was about the incident, describing it as a dark moment for the community. He confirmed that some suspects have already been arrested, and others are being tracked down by the police.
He also gave the order to seal the compound where the crime happened. It was discovered that the building was being used illegally for spiritual activities and herbal practices.
The chairman promised that the government will give full support to security agencies to make sure justice is done and that the community will be made safer going forward.
So far, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, has not released an official statement. Efforts to reach him have not been successful, as he did not respond to calls or text messages sent to his phone.
Many residents of the area are still in disbelief over the incident. Some say they knew the pastor and never imagined he could do something so terrible. Others are worried about the growing number of fake spiritualists and unregulated churches that are springing up in different places without proper monitoring.
As investigations continue, the memory of these four little children — who did nothing wrong but lost their lives in a horrifying way — will not be forgotten in a hurry.
The authorities are being urged to take strong action, not just to bring the killers to justice, but also to stop similar things from happening again in the future.
