A tragic incident has shocked residents of Asa Umudim community in Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State, where a man reportedly set his house on fire, killing one of his daughters and leaving his wife and two other children seriously injured.
The man, believed to be around 40 years old, allegedly poured an inflammable substance around the house and set it ablaze after accusing his wife of being unfaithful.
According to reports, he claimed that his wife was having extra-marital affairs and often received suspicious phone calls from men he believed to be her lovers.
The fire quickly spread through the house, trapping the family inside. One of the couple’s daughters was unable to escape and died in the blaze. Her body has since been taken to a nearby mortuary.
The wife and two other children managed to survive the fire but were badly burnt. They are currently receiving treatment in a hospital, and doctors are said to be working hard to save their lives.
A resident of the community who witnessed the incident said that the villagers were so angry about what happened that they almost lynched the man before the police arrived and took him away. The suspect’s identity has not been made public yet.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the sad event when contacted by reporters. In her words, “Yes, the police are aware. Investigation is ongoing.”
This heartbreaking incident has left the community in deep sorrow. Many people are finding it hard to understand how a man could carry out such a cruel act against his own family.
Some residents are calling for the full weight of the law to be applied, while others are praying for the survival and recovery of the injured victims.
As investigations continue, the hope is that justice will be served and that the surviving members of the family will receive the care and support they need to heal from both their physical injuries and emotional trauma.
