At least 62 Palestinians have been confirmed dead after a wave of overnight Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, according to the Hamas-run civil defence agency.
The attacks reportedly began at around 2:00 AM local time on Thursday and targeted 12 locations, with the worst destruction recorded in the southern city of Khan Younis, Sky News reports.
Rescue teams say they recovered:
- 56 bodies from Khan Younis
- 4 from Beit Lahia in the north
- 2 from Deir al-Balah in central Gaza
Among the dead were women, children, and even an infant. A family of 13 — the entire Samour family — was reportedly wiped out in the attack.
This latest assault follows weeks of worsening conditions in Gaza, where the Israeli blockade has severely limited access to food, water, fuel, and medical supplies.
According to humanitarian organisations cited by Sky News, aid is running dangerously low. Many children are now suffering from severe malnutrition, and multiple hospitals are reportedly out of service due to continuous bombardment.
One major blow was the European Hospital in Khan Younis, which previously offered critical services including neurosurgery and cancer care. It was forced to shut down after sustaining damage in a previous strike, adding more strain to Gaza’s already overwhelmed health system.
The United Nations has reported that over 90% of Gaza’s population — about 1.9 million people — have now been displaced from their homes, seeking safety wherever possible amid the chaos.
Meanwhile, more than 65 former Israeli hostages are urging the government to shift focus toward negotiations instead of relying solely on military operations, in hopes of rescuing those still held captive.
However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists that continued military pressure is the only way to ensure the safe return of remaining hostages.
This devastating conflict began on October 7, 2023, when a Hamas-led attack in Israel killed around 1,200 people and resulted in the abduction of 251 hostages.
Since then, over 52,800 people have been killed in Gaza, according to recent reports.
As the humanitarian situation worsens, the world continues to watch and call for a peaceful resolution. But for families on both sides, the pain only deepens with each passing day.
