A CCTV video is trending on the internet, showing police officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit entering a barbershop in Idogun, Ondo State, and taking phones that were charging.
The video is from March 22, 2025. It shows the officers picking up the phones and leaving.
Shop Owner Speaks About What Happened
The owner of the barbershop, Seketi Adebowale, said he was not in the shop when the police entered. He only found out because his phone sent him an alert.
“I was not there, but my phone notified me that someone was inside. I checked my CCTV camera and saw that the people who entered were SWAT officers from Akure. I quickly removed the camera so that they would not damage it.”
He also said that the officers destroyed many things in the area because of a problem between a traditional ruler and a navy captain, Jide Falade. The navy officer had been arrested, and this caused a lot of tension.
People in the town were angry and started protesting. They said the police used tear gas and even shot guns to scare them away.
People Were Beaten, and Some Were Injured
Adebowale said that a traditional ruler led the police to his shop and pointed it out to them. He believes that is why his shop was attacked.
“On Saturday morning, they destroyed my shop. Even though I have CCTV footage, the police still attacked people. They beat men, women and even children. They even killed animals.”
Videos of people injured during the raid have also appeared on social media. A woman and a young boy can be seen with injuries.
A Woman Says the Police Used a Cutlass on Her Son
A woman in the video said police officers broke into her house, beat her, and cut her son with a cutlass.
“They kicked the door open and came in. They cut my son with a cutlass and used the other side to hit me. One of them said he would cut my head off, but another officer stopped him.”
Police Respond to the Viral Video
The police have released a statement about the video. They say they are looking into it, and if the officers in the video are guilty, they will be punished.
They also promised to keep discipline among their officers and ensure that people are protected.
