Delta State Police have reacted to a video showing a fight between their officers and Airforce personnel at an Airforce checkpoint in Jeddo, Okpe Local Government Area.
The video, which has spread widely online, shows that police officers from the Quick Response Squad stopped a Toyota Corolla.
When the people in the car saw the police, they ran away. One suspect, a 25-year-old man named Ibohama Precious, was arrested after the chase.
The officers found him in possession of banned drugs, including substances believed to be Indian hemp, Canadian loud, and other hard drugs.
The police were taking Ibohama Precious and the drugs to their station when they reached the Airforce checkpoint. At that point, the Airforce personnel stopped the police and ordered them to release the suspect. The police did not agree, and a fight broke out. According to the police, the Airforce men attacked without any provocation.
SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for Delta State Police, confirmed that the incident happened on 11th February 2025 at about 1700 hours. He said the officers were doing their lawful duty by arresting a suspect with banned substances when the altercation occurred.
The video has sparked strong reactions online, with many people questioning why the Airforce personnel tried to stop a proper arrest. The Delta State Police Command is now investigating the incident to find out what went wrong.
