A Nigerian woman, Adepoju Blessing Ayomide, has taken to social media to share her humorous ordeal after her husband rejected a promissory note she wrote to borrow money from him.
Blessing explained that she asked her husband for a loan of ₦50,000, but he declined, claiming she wouldn’t repay it. When she insisted, he asked her to write a promissory note as proof of her seriousness. However, after presenting the note, her husband still rejected it without explaining why.
In frustration, Blessing posted the note on Facebook, seeking answers from internet users. The note read:
"13th January 2025,I, Mrs Shoyemi, hereby promise to pay the sum of fifty thousand naira to Mr Shoyemi as soon as I can..."
She signed the note at the bottom but admitted her husband dismissed it, saying she wasn’t ready to borrow the money.

Social media users found humour in the situation and pointed out the flaws in the note.
One commenter, Frida Mupa, said, “‘As soon as I can’ is too vague. He probably thought it could mean forever!”
Another user, ND Justus Ngurukwem, offered advice, saying, “Include the borrowing date, repayment date, witnesses, and interest rate (if any). It should be detailed and professional.”
Others joked about Blessing’s intentions, like Renna Bakuyai, who quipped, “You want to defraud your husband! Add a clause that he can do whatever pleases him if you don’t repay.”
Many also recounted similar experiences, laughing over how they’d written informal promissory notes that went unpaid for months or even years.
Blessing’s post has sparked discussions on marriage, trust, and financial accountability in relationships, with many urging couples to maintain clarity and transparency when dealing with money.
