A tragic incident unfolded in Benin City, Edo State, as a father, Theophilus Osazuwa, was arrested for allegedly killing his four-year-old son, Testimony Osazuwa.
According to the Edo State Police Command, the horrific event occurred on Tuesday afternoon, 24th December 2024, at Ogbeson Quarters, off Benin-Agbor Road. The police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, stated that the suspect appeared to have been under the influence of hard drugs when the incident happened.
Osazuwa had just returned to his home when he reportedly entered a trance-like state. Witnesses claimed he began shouting, "Holy Ghost fire," before grabbing his son and slamming him against the wall. The impact caused severe injuries to the boy, who was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police believe that Osazuwa’s use of illicit substances such as "ice" and other hard drugs may have triggered his erratic behaviour. Preliminary investigations suggest the tragedy was a result of the suspect’s long-standing drug abuse.
In his statement, the Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, condemned the act and warned youths about the dangers of drug addiction. He emphasised how substances not only destroy individuals but also jeopardise the lives of innocent people around them.
The incident has left the community in shock, with many expressing disbelief over the father’s actions. Osazuwa remains in police custody as further investigations continue.
