A Nigerian man named Henry has ignited heated debates online after boldly declaring his intent to cheat on his wife and threatening to "show her that he hails from Nsukka" if she dares to retaliate.
Henry’s statement came as a reaction to Adaeze, a social media user, who criticized the cultural norms of Nsukka, Enugu State. Adaeze highlighted an age-old belief that any married woman who cheats on her husband would be struck with instant madness, supposedly enforced by deities invoked in the region.
Adaeze didn’t hold back in her criticism:
"And they will bring deities to back them up. I pity women who are poor and don’t have a voice because they want to be called married women. Iberiberism of the highest order. Anyways, most Nsukka women will not complain even if you carry the girls into the house. They don’t want to leave their husbands’ houses because they are jobless and need your feeding and accommodation. May we not settle for Nkịta Ara ndi Nsukka."
The post has divided opinions online, sparking conversations about cultural double standards, gender inequality, and outdated marital expectations. While some argue in defense of tradition, others call for its abolition, labeling it as oppressive and regressive.
