Daniel Bwala, recently appointed as Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, has clarified his earlier statements regarding the 2023 presidential election. In an interview with Arise News, Bwala admitted that his initial accusations—that Tinubu’s victory was corruptly secured—were politically driven.
“I no longer believe Tinubu corruptly won the election,” Bwala said. “At the time, I was playing politics. I didn’t care.”
When asked if his new role influenced this change, he denied it, emphasizing that his revised stance is based on his respect for the judicial process and legal principles, not political favoritism.
He explained, “The President is the President of Nigeria. You can still stay in your party and commend the President if he does something right. Democracy allows for dissent, even within opposing political camps.”
Bwala also clarified that his earlier remarks were made before the election tribunal and Supreme Court rulings. He stressed the importance of adhering to the rule of law, noting, “The judgment of the Supreme Court is binding on all authorities, and everyone must abide by it.”
His statements have sparked discussions on the role of political allegiance and integrity in public discourse.
