I was naive when I met this guy who came from a wealthy family. My friend introduced me to him, and at that time, he wasn’t staying in Nigeria.
After Some Month he came to Nigeria and We started dating, and within four months, I got pregnant. When I told him about the pregnancy, he immediately asked me to abort it. Confused, I told my friend and cousin because it was my first time getting pregnant. My friend said she would take me to a place where I could get the abortion done, but my cousin went ahead and told my whole family about the pregnancy.
My family lied to me, saying that if I had the abortion, I would die. That scared me so much that I told my boyfriend I couldn’t go through with it. My mom took his number, called him, and asked him to come to our house. When he arrived, he begged me to abort the pregnancy, but my mom stood firm, insisting I couldn’t do it because I was an only child.
Then things escalated. He brought his mom to our house, and they both started shouting at me, embarrassing my family. At the time, my uncle—my mom's sister’s husband—was around. He suggested we all go inside to have a peaceful conversation.
During the conversation, this guy shocked everyone. He told his family that I was a prostitute trying to pin the pregnancy on him because I knew he was from a rich home. He even claimed he might not be the father of the baby. As if that wasn’t enough, my cousin—out of jealousy—told his family that I had admitted he wasn’t the father and was only trying to trap him.
Mind you, this same cousin had recently had an abortion that I covered up for her. Despite my help, she betrayed me.
For seven months, the guy blocked me, and during that time, his mom would call me daily to insult and curse me. She kept reminding me that I could never marry her son. I wish mothers would start teaching their sons to take responsibility instead of harassing women. It takes two to make a baby!
Anyway, his family kept saying I wasn’t from a wealthy background and that he was already engaged to a rich fiancée. At seven months pregnant, an old family friend noticed my condition and was shocked. She asked who the father was, and when I narrated my ordeal, she told me she knew him. He happened to be one of her husband’s friends.
This family friend decided to intervene. She spoke to the guy’s father, who claimed he wasn’t aware of the situation. To my surprise, his dad apologized to me. However, the issues between us continued until I gave birth. After the birth, they gave me 30,000 Naira, even though the child looked exactly like him.
