A major scandal has shaken Equatorial Guinea, involving a high-ranking official named Baltasar Ebang Engonga. Over the past few weeks, hundreds of videos—some say between 150 and 400—have leaked online, showing Engonga in sexual encounters with multiple women, some in his office. This has shocked the country and spread across social media.
The scandal involves not only Engonga, but also many women with close ties to powerful figures in Equatorial Guinea, which has led to various theories about the reason behind the leak. Some believe it was done to ruin Engonga’s reputation, as he is seen as a possible candidate to replace President Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who has been in power since 1979.
Engonga, known as “Bello” due to his looks, is President Obiang’s nephew. With Obiang being the world’s longest-serving president at 82, speculation about his successor is high. However, Equatorial Guinea is known for its strict control, lack of a free press, and harsh treatment of opposition.
The scandal adds to a list of controversies surrounding the president’s family, including luxury spending by his son, the current vice-president, who once bought a $275,000 crystal glove that belonged to Michael Jackson.
