The convict, Olarewaju Seun, was arraigned before the court on a one-count charge of s3x-ual assault.
In her evidence before the court, the mother of the three-year-old girl stated, "My daughter did not allow me to wash her private parts when she was bathing. When I checked, I saw that it was red and swollen; I was so scared. When I asked what happened to her bum bum, she repeatedly said, 'It was Seun.'"
She also added that when she understood what had happened to her daughter, she immediately reported the case to the police, who later took over.
The prosecutor, Kunle-Shina Adeyemo, presented three witnesses and submitted various items as evidence, including the defendant's statement, images of the victim and the defendant, and a medical report.
The defendant, represented by Ekene Luke, appealed for leniency and presented witnesses. In the judgment delivered, Justice Familoni expressed a belief in giving the young defendant a chance for redemption and to become a law-abiding citizen.
Instead of a life sentence, the court opted for a 30-month imprisonment for Olarewaju Seun, effective from his rearrest, without the option of a fine.
