The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, revealed this in Bauchi on Sunday during the flag-off of the 2024 Road Traffic Crash Victims Remembrance Week at St. John’s Evangelist Cathedral Church.
He added that more than 22,373 people sustained injuries in the accidents within the same period.
Mr. Shehu explained that Nigeria suffers heavily from road accidents due to its large population. He said the remembrance event, tagged “That Day,” is to highlight how road crashes affect lives forever and to remember those who died or got injured.
The Corps Marshal also said the event is aimed at supporting families of victims, appreciating emergency workers, and calling for stricter measures to prevent future accidents.
He urged governments to improve vehicle safety and adopt a safer system approach to reduce crashes.
Reverend Raphael Agbada, who spoke at the event, thanked the FRSC for spreading the road safety message and promised to share it with more people in Bauchi State.
