Court Stops CBN from Releasing Allocations to Rivers State! |
In a recent development, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to halt further release of monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State Government.
This decision was made on Wednesday, following the judge’s ruling on certain constitutional violations by the Rivers State Government.
Justice Abdulmalik criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget before only four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, calling it a violation of constitutional guidelines.
She described the governor’s actions as a “constitutional somersault” and an “aberration,” emphasizing that disbursing funds without proper legislative approval should not be allowed.
The judge further stated that Fubara’s actions in enforcing an unlawful budget breached the 1999 Constitution, which he had sworn to uphold. Due to this ruling, the CBN, the Accountant General of the Federation, as well as Zenith Bank and Access Bank, have been ordered to prevent Governor Fubara from accessing funds from the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
Further updates on this case will be shared as more information becomes available.
