A tragic road accident occurred on Saturday night, August 31, 2024, along the Abeokuta-Sango-Lagos road at Kere, Itori, resulting in the deaths of two children and injuries to seven other passengers.
The incident involved a white Toyota Camry with the registration number AGL36JA, which reportedly crashed due to excessive speed and overloading.
According to a statement by Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash happened around 11 p.m.
The vehicle was carrying nine passengers—seven adults, a male child, and a female child. The two children lost their lives, while the injured victims were rushed to the Ifo General Hospital for treatment. The deceased were also taken to the hospital's morgue.
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwumi Fasakin, condemned the reckless behavior of overloading vehicles, which he described as a disregard for human life.
He urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing the dangers of overloading both passengers and goods.
Fasakin extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
