This incident happened just a day after another fatal truck accident in the Lafenwa area, which claimed four lives and left two others injured.
According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the accident took place early on Friday.
The crash involved an Iveco Truck with the license plate KJA 166 XJ and a tricycle with the number plate TRE 627 VP.
Akinbiyi attributed the cause of the accident to dangerous driving by the truck driver, who reportedly fled the scene after the collision.
The tragic event occurred when the truck attempted to overtake the tricycle while both vehicles were heading towards Abeokuta.
The truck ended up dragging the tricycle along, causing it to fall in front of the truck, which then ran over it, killing the grandmother and her granddaughter on the spot. The two females were the only occupants of the tricycle.
Akinbiyi further stated that the bodies of the deceased have been handed over to their families, while the injured tricycle driver was taken to an undisclosed hospital by a good Samaritan.
The accident vehicles have been deposited at the Itori Divisional Police Command. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid dangerous and reckless driving to prevent such tragic accidents.
