Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) made a significant arrest on Monday, March 18, 2024, apprehending Kayode Cole for issuing a death threat against the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Ola Olukoyede. The arrest took place in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The alarming threat surfaced through Cole's Instagram handle, "1billionsecretss," in response to a post by popular Instagram blogger, Instablog9ja. The post highlighted EFCC's investigation into money laundering activities allegedly involving religious groups. Reacting to the story, Cole brazenly declared in the comment section that the EFCC Chairman would meet his demise within six months.
During interrogation, Cole claimed he was merely seeking attention, admitting to "chasing clout." However, his reckless words prompted swift action from EFCC authorities, leading to his apprehension.
Cole will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
This incident underscores the seriousness with which threats against public officials are treated, especially given the sensitive nature of EFCC's mandate in combating financial crimes and corruption in Nigeria. Such actions not only undermine the integrity of law enforcement agencies but also pose a threat to societal stability and the rule of law.
