In a devastating incident at Tokyo's Haneda airport, a Japan Coast Guard aircraft collided with a Japan Airlines passenger plane, resulting in five fatalities.
The passenger plane, carrying 379 passengers and crew, burst into flames but was successfully evacuated.
Tragically, five crew members from the smaller aircraft, en route to deliver supplies after a recent earthquake, lost their lives.
The cause of the collision remains unknown. Social media footage captured the dramatic scene as passengers evacuated amidst flames, and efforts to control the fire proved futile.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida expressed regret for the loss of the crew, praising their commitment to aiding quake victims.
Investigations into the incident are underway, marking a rare aviation tragedy for Japan, a country that has not witnessed a serious commercial aviation accident in decades.
