The Anambra State Police Command has initiated a manhunt to apprehend those responsible for the tragic deaths of a couple discovered in the trunk of a car along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway on Wednesday.
The police spokesperson, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, stated in a released statement on Wednesday that investigations into the incident are already underway.
Earlier on the same day, the lifeless bodies of a man and a woman, bearing violent marks and gunshot wounds, were found in an abandoned vehicle along the expressway.
Passersby discovered the two bodies, covered in fresh blood, at a desolate location near Tempo Junction, Umunya, along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway early in the morning. Alongside the bodies, several expended cartridges were reportedly found at the scene.
Authorities suspect that the couple was left at the scene after being murdered, and the corpses have been recovered and taken to the mortuary for further examination.
Tochukwu provided details, saying, “The operatives have also recovered the car in which the bodies were found, a black Corolla, with registration plate number Lagos AAA 621 EU. The bodies, a poignant reminder of the crime, were then deposited in the morgue and investigations have begun."
“Preliminary information reveals that the persons, a man and woman with marks of violence and gunshot injuries all over their bodies, were murdered and abandoned in a black Corolla car with the number plate Lagos AAA 621 EU.”
A video circulating on social media displays a dark-colored Toyota Corolla being scrutinized by onlookers, with its doors wide open, revealing the two fresh corpses placed inside the trunk.
The blood seeping from beneath the vehicle's trunk suggests that the victims may have been recently killed in a cold-blooded manner.
When questioned about the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the tragic event.
