In a heart-wrenching incident, Florence Vandi, a 22-year-old health worker at the Primary Health Care Centre in Girei, Adamawa State, has tragically ended her life just hours after the death of her boyfriend, Nuhu Boniface.
The Adamawa State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, released a press statement on December 2, 2023, providing details about the unfortunate events.
Nguroje stated that Florence, a resident of Viniklang in Girei Local Government Area and originally from Michika LGA, took her own life by consuming a liquid substance suspected to be “Otapiyapiya” as a protest against her boyfriend's death.
According to the statement, Nuhu Boniface passed away after a brief illness while receiving treatment at the hospital. Florence's decision to end her life came as a shock, occurring within a few hours of her boyfriend's demise.
The investigation revealed that Florence was a dedicated health worker attached to Girei Primary Health Care Centre. The Commissioner of Police, CP Afolabi Babatola, expressed deep sadness over the incident, emphasizing the need for public awareness on the consequences of taking laws into their own hands.
The PPRO urged the public to report any suspicious activities in their neighborhoods to the police, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance.
