The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, is calling on grassroots Nigerians to take a stand for better lives by exposing officials engaged in looting local government funds.
Olukoyede, addressing participants at a two-day workshop organized by the Ministry of Local Government in Kaduna State through EFCC Kaduna's acting Zonal Commander, Aisha Abubakar, emphasized the crucial role of fiscal discipline, transparency, and efficient resource management at the local government level.
He highlighted the significance of prudent resource management, stressing its positive impact on grassroots communities. Olukoyede urged local communities to actively contribute information to the EFCC, promoting transparency and exposing corruption within their regions.
The EFCC chairman emphasized the importance of whistleblowing, asserting that fiscal discipline requires active citizen involvement. He encouraged grassroots Nigerians to join hands with the EFCC in unveiling corrupt practices in their communities.
Olukoyede directed attention to local government officials, urging them to champion economic development by steering clear of wastefulness and embezzlement. He underlined the broader goal of the anti-corruption campaign, aiming to drive economic growth, generate wealth, and create job opportunities at the grassroots level.
Kaduna State’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, echoed the call for financial discipline among local government functionaries. She emphasized the alignment of local governments with global best practices, emphasizing the workshop's purpose to instill financial discipline and ensure conformity with positive policies for overall success.
Dr. Balarabe acknowledged the vital role local governments play in contributing to the broader objectives of economic development and good governance. The workshop, according to her, sought to equip key local government functionaries with the knowledge needed to uphold financial discipline, fostering good governance and contributing to the overall success of state-level initiatives.
