Lawal, the husband of Toluige Olokobi Babalola, the woman from the 'Mummy Calm Down' video, shared a version of events with the police that contradicts what neighbors reported about her alleged suicide.
One significant difference revolves around the method of her reported suicide, specifically concerning the rope supposedly used. This comes after the woman and her son gained internet fame in 2021 due to a video where the little boy was seen tearfully pleading with his mother to calm down after upsetting her.
On Tuesday this week, a Twitter user disclosed that Toluige had taken her own life in Benin, Edo State, under unclear circumstances.
The conflicting stories prompted the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, to address the issue at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters in Benin City. Nwabuzor revealed that Lawal's account of the incident differed from that of the neighbors, leading Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, to order an investigation.
According to Nwabuzor, Lawal reported on November 8 that he returned from the market to find their two-year-old child crying. Upon entering the house, he discovered his wife tied to a rope hanging from the ceiling.
Lawal claimed to have loosened the rope and called for help from neighbors, who accompanied him to the hospital where Toluige was pronounced dead.
However, neighbors dispute Lawal's version, asserting that they found him lying on the woman when they responded to his cries for help. This contradiction raised concerns, leading to the Commissioner of Police ordering a transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further scrutiny.
Nwabuzor emphasized that the investigation aims to reconcile the conflicting accounts and shed light on the circumstances surrounding Toluige's tragic demise. The absence of visible marks of violence on the deceased, as reported by the initial police examination, adds complexity to the situation.
As the investigation unfolds, the authorities are working diligently to uncover the truth behind the conflicting narratives, particularly in relation to the mysterious aspects of Toluige Olokobi Babalola's passing.
