Hey, Today's Dev newsletter issue covers updates from OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft. Also, GitLab increased the price of GitLab Premium.
1. OpenAPI released ChatGPT and Whisper APIs, enabling developers to integrate the products into their apps. Whisper is a speech-to-text model that was trained on 680,000 hours of voice data, and the API provides on-demand access at $0.0006 per minute.
2. Google introduced Service Weaver, an open-source framework for building and deploying distributed applications. Service Weaver version 0.1 comprises core Go libraries used for writing applications, deployers for running applications locally or on GKE, and a set of APIs for writing deployers for any platform.
3. The White House released the National Cybersecurity Strategy calling for holding companies accountable for vulnerabilities in their products. The strategy comprises five pillars: defending critical infrastructure, disrupting threat actors, shaping market forces to drive security and resilience, investing in a resilient future, and forging international partnerships.
4. GitLab announced it is increasing the list price of GitLab Premium from $19 to $29 per user per month. According to GitLab's blog post, the price increase reflects the evolution of GitLab from source control and CI to a comprehensive DevSecOps platform.
5. Microsoft released TypeScript 5.0 RC with features such as Decorators, a new bundler module resolution option, const modifiers for type parameters, etc. Microsoft said it expects no further changes between now and March 14, when the full release is scheduled.
6. The OWASP Foundation announced its flagship project, CycloneDX, with contributions from IBM. The two open-source projects, SBOM and Utility and License Scanner, promote validation, content analysis, and accuracy of software license information in BOMs.
7. 3D asset management platform echo3D enables developers to manage, update, and stream 3D content to real-time AR/VR apps and games. The tool ranked second on ProductHunt on the day of its launch.
