President Biden named former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu to lead the implementation of the recently passed ~$1T infrastructure bill.
Biden will sign the bill in a ceremony at the White House, marking his administration's first major legislative achievement.
Landrieu will be appointed as a senior adviser who will work through the National Economic Council to coordinate and implement the infrastructure package.
Landrieu was Lieutenant Governor of Louisiana when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005.
He was quick to fast-track dozens of projects and helped his state and city get billions of dollars in federal funds to rebuild schools, hospitals, and other infrastructure.
Some cabinet members have been tapped to help implement the infrastructure bill, including Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Michael Regan, and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.
Landrieu said he was:
"Honored to be tasked with coordinating the largest infrastructure investment in generations. Our work will require strong partnerships across the government and with state and local leaders, business and labor to create good-paying jobs and rebuild America for the middle class."
