Apple wireless charger is changing an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods at same time. |
Apple is working on a multi-device wireless charger that would be a "spiritual successor" to its previously canceled AirPower charging mat.
In his consumer tech newsletter, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the device would be capable of charging three devices — an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods — at the same time.
Apple announced the AirPower in 2017 but scrapped it less than two years later due to development problems such as alleged overheating.
The company later rolled out the MagSafe Duo accessory to wirelessly charge two devices at once, though reports noted it's actually two separate chargers stitched together.
Gurman reports that Apple is still working on short and long-distance wireless charging solutions. This includes "true" wireless charging tech (aka, not inductive), that doesn't require physical contact between the devices.
Apple envisions a future where its products would be capable of charging each other.
"Imagine an iPad charging an iPhone and then that iPhone charging AirPods or an Apple Watch," Gurman adds.
