Nigerians may be afflicted with hunger and malnutrition as the nation continues to experience a hike in food prices, as a bag of beans now sells for as high as N100,000.
“On a monthly basis, food costs seem to be increasing in major cities in Nigeria.
For example, the prices of beans, a staple food for most homes have gone up over the last month compared to previous months. Beans, which is a highly demanded food item, used in the making of many other delicacies such as bean pudding (“moi moi”), bean cake (“akara”), beans soup (“gbegiri”), and many others, has now hit a record high in terms of price. A bag of beans that previously sold for N30,000 in early September now costs between N50,000 and N100,000 in early October.
